People were not given the opportunity for a democratic vote in deciding which council they would prefer to make decisions on their behalf and which impact on their lives and community in this dividing up of Devon. I can not see any tangible benefits for residents in so many areas and the cost to implement the division makes it seem a waste of money that could be used for more local decisions. If new PM Andy Burnham is serious about putting decisions more locally then I would urge him to listen to the voices against the plans and not force people to come under a different council just because it benefits two Devon cities rather than the majority of Devon rural residents who are extremely unhappy about this dividing up of Devon.
