If you’re feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, that something isn’t quite right or you’re feeling pressure around what is expected of all of us, Katie Carswell can help.
Katie Carswell - Life Coach is an expert in wellbeing and mindfulness and is focused on a holistic and well-rounded view of a person and their mental health.
“The pandemic was a struggle for everyone”, Katie explained, “it was dreadful and isolating, but one of the small positives it gave many of us was a bit of time to come back to who we are and what we actually want from life.
“It was an enforced slowing down, it forced a lot of people to face up to themselves and took away the need to fill every moment of time with an action. We were asking ourselves, do I want to be doing all these things? Are they actually benefiting me and am I really happy?"
She continued: “Society expects so much from us, the house, the business or career, the children, and those who look like they have it all can sometimes be left feeling unfulfilled; whilst others can feel like they are desperately inadequate if they haven’t ‘achieved’ those things. You can hit the wall and get burnt out on the constant hamster wheel every day, it’s a huge amount of pressure.
“The work I do is all about providing space for people, a moment to pause, of quiet and reflection, so they can disconnect from their stress and reconnect to their authentic selves, not what anyone else tells them they “should be” doing and other’s expectations of us.”
Katie has been working online throughout the pandemic, providing virtual life coaching, mindfulness and reiki sessions, and she said the one thing that both herself and her clients felt like they were missing was the “human connection” of being in person with someone, plus the community that can come from groups of people coming together.
Katie is based at Creacombe Farm, Yealmpton, a stunning and calming corner of the South Hams where people can really switch off and focus on themselves. She said: “My beautiful barn conversion studio is set in the most peaceful and idyllic setting, you can’t help but feel anything other than relaxed when you are there.
"I also lead mindful walks and sessions around the grounds and there is something about the beautiful setting, the movement, the gentle exercise, it creates a space for people to organically open up about things that are worrying them.
“It's very grounding and a calming distraction to be surrounded by nature, whether that’s being outside or in the wellbeing studio, with views out across the grounds and surrounding countryside. It’s so peaceful here and that has a real knock-on effect, it just seems to give people a far deeper benefit and they come out of every session feeling much more relaxed and connected.
"My work is all about helping people to press pause, so they can focus on the here and now and be really present in their today, not just spending time in their heads, thinking about the next thing they have to do. There is so much power, peace and healing in doing so."
Katie knows that the increase in the cost of living and the trend of current rising prices, can put people off from spending money on themselves, but she knows how important investing in yourself is.
She said: “One or two hours of taking time for yourself, honouring you and getting some self-care is so important. You have to look after yourself before you can look after other people. We look after our bodies by going to the gym or taking a yoga class, we need to do the same with our mental health too, like yoga for the mind.
"The pandemic has highlighted how important it is to take good care of our mental wellbeing and what can happen if we don’t. There are a huge amount of people silently struggling out there, which makes me feel so sad.
"There is help at hand, you don’t need to do it on your own and this is one of the reasons I wanted to set up the space at Creacombe Farm, so people locally had a place they could come to for support.
“For some people the pandemic brought into focus things that they couldn’t ignore anymore. Something that they needed to get help with but perhaps unsure where to turn. That has been tough for many and it’s so much harder trying to work through these things on your own and that’s where working with a life and mindfulness coach can really help and save you so much time and additional stress".
Katie offers a variety of classes, sessions, retreats, and packages that can work for you. It can be one-on-one sessions, group mindfulness classes, life coaching, Reiki therapy and shares, holistic menopause support, Kundalini yoga, among many other things. Katie also works with businesses and organisations offering mindfulness away days too.
Katie added: “It's all about taking the time to pause, for self care and to honour yourself. I want to help you create space to reconnect to your authentic self and reap the reward, in all aspects of your life, for doing so. Creacombe Farm is your place to do just this, it’s your space to disconnect, reconnect, unwind and live your life more intentionally.”
