Cafe and multi-use space in Bantham, Devon with a Skatebowl, Farm, Pottery and Surfboard Shaping Bay.

A two-acre multi-use space in South Devon between Dartmoor and the South Hams coast, a place to eat, skate, create, play and grow.

More than a cafe, Outside is a space for everyone, to get together, find inspiration and be creative, outside of the home.

Our aim is to bring together our community and contribute
 to the environmental, occupational and social wellbeing of the area through entertainment, education and opportunities for young people to grow and develop.

THE CAFE

Local ingredients, world flavours.

Our kitchen is open Wednesday - Sunday all day, offering smaller bites, to substantial brunch and lunch options. We use our homegrown fruit and veg as much as possible and trusted local producers for everything else.

The menu will change regularly according to what produce is available week to week so please follow our socials for updates

THE FARM

Providing fresh, seasonal fruit and veg directly to the cafe.

Our small holding at Outside is home to two poly-tunnels and an outdoor growing garden. We are growing a large variety of veg including tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, cucumbers, peppers, salad and more!

THE SKATEBOWL

The Outside bowl was designed by Betong Park and built by Opus Skateparks in December 2021. Thanks to our Crowdfunder supporters we now have one of the best bowls in the country!

We have Day, Week and Year passes that start from the day of purchase. In-line skates, scooters and BMX bikes without pegs are all welcome!

There is no need to book your session but before you can ride, you will need to buy a skate pass and complete our waiver form. Our waiver form only has to be done once and applies to everyone. Please check-in at the cafe when you arrive so we know who is skating.

From time to time we will have a private session or club on at the bowl, we will post these on the calendar so please check before you head down.

Under 16's need to wear protective gear, there is a selection available to hire in the cafe if needed! Please read our Skate Rules before you ride.

THE CERAMICS STUDIO

Harness your creativity through clay! Learn to throw and hand-build in a relaxed environment.

Our classes work on a drop-in basis and run throughout the year, we have a variety of classes for absolute beginners through to seasoned potters.

The beginners classes are for getting to know the clay, with a more hands on approach from our tutor. Over a few classes you will have an introduction into each stage of making. We suggest doing 3 to 4 classes to experience all the stages of making but you don’t have to.

In the first class you’ll have a good introduction into throwing on the wheel, in the second you will trim your pieces and in the third you will decorate and glaze, however if you’re only able to attend one or two classes, we can finish your piece for you.

The intermediate classes are for those who know the process and have attended our beginners classes or another pottery course. This is time for you to use the studio with supervision from our tutor and ask for guidance as and when is needed.

We also run one-off themed classes throughout the year for all levels, these are focussed on a particular skill or item and cater to all levels.

Class sizes are small, ranging between four and eight people depending on the type of class, these will be specified on the event page.

THE OUTSIDE SHAPING BAY

Shape Your Own Surfboard

At Outside we have a fully equipped in-house shaping bay where surfers will be able to learn and hone the craft of surfboard shaping. We will offer a variety of workshops from “An Introduction to Surfboard Shaping” to a full two day one-to-one "Shape your own Board" workshop with one of our experienced shapers.

Workshops will start from September 2022.
