What is solution focused hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle, effective mix of psychotherapy and hypnosis.
During a session, I use a combination of techniques, including the best of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to reduce anxiety and allow clients to find solutions.
Hypnosis (or trance) is a powerful tool for transformation, but also a very natural state, that we all experience every day. You will recognise trance – for example, when you are driving a familiar route and suddenly find yourself at your destination without having noticed certain landmarks, or when you are reading a book, and seem to have turned several pages without taking anything in!
For the purposes of hypnotherapy, only a light trance is needed, allowing the mind to focus and the subconscious to be open to suggestion. At all times you, the client, are in complete control. It is a very relaxing and enjoyable sensation.
How can I help?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does what it says on the tin! This means that whilst I’m interested in the problem, I’m focused on the solution. We won’t be digging over old ground, instead we’ll be planting new seeds – creating your future the way you see it and want it. This is great news, because it means that whatever it is that you come to see me about, we can change it – using the incredible power of your own mind!
Sleep
Do you suffer with insomnia? Does your work prevent you from sleeping well? Sleep is known to be crucial to our wellbeing. It’s easily as important to sleep as it is to achieve when we are awake. You should see sleep as essential as eating and exercising for your wellbeing. Hypnosis is a fabulous tool for resetting the sleep pattern that we need. It reduces anxiety, and because there is some replication of REM sleep during trance, it actually can be the equivalent of a good nights’ sleep in itself. When sleep improves, we often see a fast and remarkable improvement in levels of anxiety, memory, creativity and performance. I’ve seen clients transform almost overnight when sleep has improved.
Anxiety & Stress
Anxiety can be a useful tool – after all, if you were alone in the jungle you’d be happy to be constantly vigilant and alert to the dangers all around you, wouldn’t you?
Thankfully we aren’t exposed to those kinds of dangers on a daily basis, but when we become overly stressed, our brains can get fixed on full alert and leave us feeling exhausted and unable to cope with our daily lives. The way that stress shows itself is also different for everyone. For some it means an increase in physical tension. For others, a flare up of eczema or IBS. Some of us become more angry, or tearful.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool in helping to relieve that stress and to bring anxiety levels down, allowing us to get back in control of our thoughts and emotions and therefore our lives.

Depression
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Depression can feel like a deep dark hole with no way out, but with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, there is hope. Depression, unlike anxiety, seems to have no energy, which makes it very hard to tackle by yourself. With the right support, you can start to do those things which increase your motivation so that depression becomes a thing of the past, no longer part of your future. Working sensitively and skilfully with you, I can enable you to find your way up and out, so that you begin to regain control of your life and see opportunities without feeling overwhelmed.
Phobias & fears
Phobias take over our lives. If you have one that means that you change the way you do things, or that stop you from doing the things you want to do, maybe you’d like to change that? Surprisingly, it usually only takes 4 sessions in total (3 following Initial Consultation) to remove specific phobias.
Examples include: Flying, Spiders, Lifts, Snakes, Motorway Driving and many more.
Just imagine what you could be doing in 4 or 5 weeks without your fear!
Decisions
Time and again, I see clients for whom choice is a problem, and this is because they have a hyper-alert ‘fight, flight, fear’ mechanism which just loves to flag up all the possible pitfalls of each choice, and send them into a spiral of negative thought and worry. Wouldn’t it be lovely to be able to just relax and let go of the worries, choosing things because they are right NOW, and not even thinking about what might (or might not) happen in the future (or perhaps what went wrong in the past)?
This is what hypnosis can do – calming that over-vigilant ‘security guard’ and bringing choice back under the control of our rational, sensible brain. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy goes one step further – making sure that it’s the rational brain that’s in charge before hypnosis even begins, so that creativity and new ideas come along almost like magic ( it’s not magic, but it can sometimes seem like it!)
Smoking
Hypnosis, in conjunction with solution focused therapy, creates the right environment for you to be able to exercise your rational decision making capability and choose to be a non smoker. During our session you will become more and more aware of your compelling reasons to stop smoking, and more confident to say no and really mean it. Now is the moment to change your life! (This session is also relevant for stopping vaping. Other more addictive substances including drugs, alcohol and sugar can be managed in more than one session).
