We found this surprising and very frustrating. We looked at options to market our holiday home and we thought Airbnb would be the best and most flexible platform to provide bookings. We found that setting up on Airbnb is very easy and there is lots of help from Airbnb to assist you getting the details correct. Since using Airbnb to market the house we saw a 30% increase in bookings and the percentage of income we receive from our bookings had increased. Like most second home owners in Salcombe we did not live close enough to manage our own properties. This meant that we had to engage with the rental agencies in Salcombe to support the bookings and all the associated activities that are required to rent out your home for holidays. When we decided to take control of our own property we searched for a management company and that’s how we found SHEPs – Elliot & Caroline. SHEPs are a “one stop shop” for a complete holiday home management solution. Elliot was also our co host on Airbnb and had visibility of communications with all the guests, we worked together to ensure the guests requests were fulfilled and Elliot communicated with the guests before they travelled to Salcombe. When guests arrived Elliot took over and ensured any issues were quickly resolved. When we came to the end of a very busy holiday period which starts at Easter and probably ends late September and SHEPs had handled multiple changeovers, cleans, linen changes and waste removal. They even ensured the recycling was done and we were impressed with the seamless way the changeovers were carried out and very much appreciated their efforts & support. SHEPs handled everything for us in Salcombe and this was so reassuring and the feedback we got from guests staying at our home via Airbnb helped to build a very good reputation which secured future bookings & returning guests. We couldn’t have built this reputation without the help and expertise of SHEPs – Elliot & Caroline. They are friendly and open to idea’s , suggest idea’s and it’s a partnership with a common goal to not only secure booking’s but also ensured our guests had support if needed. It was so reassuring to have the knowledge that if anything is needed during their holiday help was never far away. Elliot is always willing to tackle the less glamorous or interesting jobs of weeding and general trimming as well as looking after all the lawn mowing, strimming and hedge maintenance He has tackled anything which I have asked, willingly and successfully. My dogs (all 7 of them!) welcome him on arrival and are obviously pleased to see him. Elliot has become a firm family friend and I hope he is able to help me for a long time yet. And despite very difficult circumstances, (many layers of old wall paper, crumbling plaster and terrible damp) the project was completed on time, to a very high standard, and at a very reasonable cost.
