The final date for the 2022 Folk at the Flavel series features the legendary fiddle player Peter Knight, founder member of folk-rock pioneers Steeleye Span with his band, Gigspanner.

Since leaving Steeleye at the end of 2013 Peter has given his full attention to Gigspanner, who have now firmly established their reputation as one of the most innovative acts on the folk scene leading Maverick magazine to write: "Gigspanner are pushing at the boundaries, expanding the possibilities and in the process making some of the most beautiful music the (folk) genre has to offer". Not unexpectedly, British traditional music forms the bedrock of the trio’s repertoire but it’s their approach that sets them apart.  Their arrangements leave enough room for the music to spread and stretch in the moment allowing influences from French, Cajun, Cuban and Eastern European traditions to be woven into the mix. Peter Knight’s virtuoso fiddle playing is complemented by the flawless playing of Roger Flack on guitar and Sacha Trochet on hand drums and percussion. 2019 marks the tenth anniversary year of the release of Gigspanner’s debut album, Lipreading the Poet and several well received albums have followed the most recent being Natural Invention. "

Gigspanners two previous appearances at the Flavel very quickly sold out so be sure to get your tickets soon!
