If high end designer fabrics many at less than 50% of their recommended retail price gets your heart racing then read on…

Tell us about Ultimate Fabrics

We supply a vast range of high quality upholstery and curtain weight fabric at heavily discounted
prices. The fabrics are a mixture of discontinued, slight seconds and regular designs with prices
suitable for all budgets. With over 35 years experience and long established relationships within the
industry we really know what we are talking about and it allows us to offer stock that is unrivalled. We
have two floors of a huge warehouse on South Hams Industrial Estate in Churchstow which is choc a
block with rolls of fabric, remnants and roll-ends of designer fabrics at discounted prices. We offer
designer fabrics by design powerhouses such as Sanderson, Harlequin, Zoffany and many more and
we are lucky that we can constantly rotate stock so there are always new designers coming in. We
also recommend local upholsterers and curtain makers. We don’t do it in-house but we have
longstanding relationships with some fantastic people in the local area who we have been working
with for years.

What sort of clients do you have?

Gosh, everybody! We have domestic customers who are wanting to make a new cushion cover or a
set of curtains etc, who just buy the fabric and are on their way happy to make their own and then we
have other customers who use our recommended upholsterers and curtain makers as they either
can’t or don’t want to do it themselves. We supply many local hotels, for instance we have just been
involved in the refurbishment of the bedrooms at Gara Rock Hotel in East Portlemouth. We supply a
lot of holiday cottages and bed and breakfasts because they have to refurb quite regularly. When they
come to us they get designer fabrics at a fraction of the usual cost. The look of the property is so
important in the holiday market and they know if they come to us they’ll get the look they want at rock
bottom prices. We also have interior designers that shop with us regularly as they know they can get
the look they require here. We have people come to Ultimate Fabrics from all over the country as
there’s not many places like this left now. Quite often holiday home owners who have been to us will
go back to London and tell their friends about us and then we have people phoning us from London.

What sort of reaction do you get from a first time customer?

They’re always shocked at the sheer amount of stock that we have here. We literally have over a
thousand rolls of fabric in stock. It can be quite overwhelming when you first walk in. It’s two floors of
warehouse completely jam packed with beautiful fabric. They’re over the moon to be able to come
somewhere so very local and be met by the sort quality, choice and price that they get here. A lot of
our customers like being able to walk in and actually see and feel the fabric for themselves they’re not
just getting a small swatch sent through the post. They get to see the whole roll of fabric and get a
much better feel for the design.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

The clients! We have some really lovely clients and we have a great team here too. It’s a brilliant
friendly atmosphere in the warehouse and we love helping people find the right fabric for the job. Nick
and I are so lucky to have a business that we thoroughly enjoy in such a beautiful part of the world.
What more could anyone want?

What’s new to Ultimate Fabrics?

We’ve recently started doing a range of sustainable cottons which we’re very excited about and we’re
hoping to extend that range soon. It’s been very well received by our customers and it’s great to
know that we’re doing our bit for the environment.
