Fire crew fight tractor fire in Bittaford

Fire crews from Ivybridge and Crownhill fight tractor fire in a field near Bittaford.

Fire crews were called to a farm in Bittaford at 12.28pm on Tuesday, 17 October, to a tractor on fire in a field.

Crews remained on scene for a few hours to fight the fire and the vehicle was well alight and was "totally destroyed by fire".

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service said: "A re-attendance was required after one of the tyres caught fire again due to a hotspot, which our Ivybridge crew dealt with immediately and as a result of possible further hotspots a re-inspection has been agreed later on this evening.

"Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and compressed air foam to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to have started accidentally. Duty of care has been left with the owner."
