Totnes students complete Ten Tors Challenge

Students from King Edward VI Community College in Totnes, part of Education South West, completed the Ten Tors challenge this weekend. 

The Ten Tors Challenge is attempted by over two thousand young people, all hiking in teams of six. The teams undertake routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles depending on age over the Northern half of the Dartmoor National Park.

They visit ten nominated check points, including tours in less than 48 hours. Entrants must be self-sufficient and carry everything needed to complete the challenge and camp safely. 

The event starts and finishes at Okehampton Camp and is organised by the Army’s Headquarters South West with support from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as well as civilian emergency services and volunteers. 

Ten Tors is renowned for its scale and ambition and is unusual as it is solely aimed at young people.  Training for the challenge starts months in advance as the terrain for the Ten Tors is not easy, however completing it is a huge achievement for the young people that can see it through.
