Devon Air Ambulance to host volunteering taster sessions as part of The Big Help Out, 2024

Devon Air Ambulance will once more join the nation by taking part in The Big Help Out.

The charity is inviting members of the community to take part in a volunteer taster session in the South Hams.

Last May, an incredible six million people took part in with The Big Help Out, coming together to lend a hand in their local communities to experience how rewarding volunteering can be and the power that donating time can have.

This year, The Big Help Out and Volunteer’s Week have merged and will run from the 3 - 9 June. Throughout this week, Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) will be hosting an open week with both in-person and virtual sessions for anyone interested in volunteering to meet and chat with staff, crew, and current volunteers, and to find out more about volunteering for the charity.

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting DAA’s operations and extending the charity’s reach in the community it serves.

Vicky Thresher, Volunteer Manager for Devon Air Ambulance, said: "We are thrilled to be able to facilitate taster sessions in the community and we really look forward to meeting local people that are interested in volunteering with us.

"Volunteers really do play such a vital role in our operations. We have a network of over 650 volunteers each making an essential contribution to the charity through supporting various areas of the organisation including retail, fundraising and our head office activities."

Donating as little as two hours of your time can help to fund essential equipment for the service’s Critical Care crew to use during their lifesaving missions. The equivalent of £22 in would buy an important item such as a Laryngoscope, a scalpel, or metal max pro-shears.

On Saturday, 8 June, 10am-2pm, there will be a Morrisons Supermarket Bucket Collection. Volunteers can join the team to help raise vital funds in Plymouth at: Morrisons, Pomphlett Rd, Plymstock, Plymouth PL9 7BH.
