A spokesperson for Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The casualty had fallen on the beach and possibly broken a hip.
"The casualty was carefully and gently lifted into our stretcher and carried off the beach to the car park, which was why two teams were required.
"Team's were able to place the casualty in the shade of the coastguard vehicles to provide protection from the intense sun.
"Once in a safe and sheltered environment, the teams provided casualty care and monitored them, until South West Ambulance Service arrived and transported the casualty to Torbay Hospital."
In a coastal emergency, be it at the beach, a river or in a harbour, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
