Kingsbridge Show is a great success, despite a slightly wet ending

Kingsbridge Show was a great success, despite a wet ending to the day. 

As usual, Kingsbridge Show welcomed hundreds of people to Borough Farm on Saturday, able to watch the livestock competitors, equestrian classes, check out the local businesses, enjoy the locally-made treats and foods and snuggling the pets. 

Apart from a shortly-escaped calf that was quickly and skilfully wrangled before it caused any issues, the event was smooth and popular. The weather, despite threatening to rain the whole day, it held off until the afternoon, allowing everyone to enjoy the day and visit all the exciting things going on across the show ground.

One of the main draws to the main showground was the amazing Paul Hannam Quad Bike Stunt Team showing off jumps, stunts, tricks and skills to the amazement of the audience. Ending in a risky jump over a van, while wheelspinning on a damp field - real high suspense performances.

The next day, show organisers said: "Thank you Kingsbridge and the South Hams for supporting Kingsbridge Show again this year.

"It takes us a year of planning, hours of sorting out each section by volunteers who take on a certain area of the show and put it together and then we start turning a field into the show and making sure everything  has a place. That process starts nine days before show day and hopefully finishes two days after.

"All this is coordinated by our show secretary who liaises with two show directors to try and keep things on track. We are on this land by kind permission of the Smaridge family who basically farm around us and help us too over those 11 days.

"Our priorities in all this are to make sure that all our exhibitors, competitors and visitors have a good time and enjoy what the area has to offer.  It is a day for relaxing and meeting up with people you don’t see that often.

"We, like everybody else are required to comply with Health and Safety, and rightly so to keep you all safe. When the weather decides to do what it did yesterday afternoon it makes life difficult for us for many reasons - as we are on grass, the field soon starts to churn up as soon as vehicles and people start moving on it, this becomes slippery and dangerous.

The team from the Kingsbridge Care Hub delighted people of all ages (and confused a few dogs) with their dinosaur costumes 

"Everybody naturally just wants to go home when it starts to rain and there is a mass exodus. We have to do this as safely as we possibly can without making too much mess of the fields we are using. Our volunteers did a great job of managing this yesterday and if you were held up in any way we are very sorry but we were doing our best.

The pet corner is always a hit - Arthur especially enjoyed the guinea pigs 

"Our thanks must go to Jon and Will Haddy, Martin Higgin, Mike Reeve and Simon Smaridge for there work in towing so many traders and cars out off the fields, they worked until 7pm to get everyone out who wanted to leave. Now we start to try and clear it all up on a very wet and muddy field.  

"Thank you to all our volunteers for all the hard work they have put in and will be putting in over the next couple of days and if you are reading this and think I would like to volunteer to help run this event or maybe feel you could do a better job in any area then we would love to hear from you.

"Until next year thank you for your support."
