Pupils, staff and families at Harbertonford Primary School are celebrating after a special 80s-themed fundraising night raised more than £2,000 to help expand the school’s outdoor play equipment.

The event drew a crowd of staff, parents, the local community and nostalgic music fans together for an evening of incredible live music.

Held at Harberton Village Hall, the ‘Back to the 80s’ event was organised by the school’s Reception teacher Mrs Blair, teaching assistant Mrs Owen and school administrator Mrs Hasemore.

The event featured live music from Riviera Dogs, a five-piece 80s party band from Torbay, who entertained guests with a high-energy set of classic 80s hits, movie tunes and forgotten gems.

Teachers got involved too, with the school’s staff running the bar for the evening, while guests also had the chance to win prizes from a raffle featuring goodies donated by local businesses.

The money raised will go towards expanding the school’s outdoor play equipment, helping to create more opportunities for pupils to play, explore and enjoy their outdoor space. The equipment will enhance the children’s social engagement, physical development and physical literacy.

The school would particularly like to thank The Watermans Arms in Tuckenhay and Stags Estate Agents in Totnes for their generous donations, as well as all of the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.

Businesses that donated prizes included Andria, Nkuku, The Maltsters Arms pub, Alf Fresco, Baxter’s Art Gallery, 11 clothing, Totnes Rare Breads Farm, Dartmouth Steam Railway, The Wheelhouse, Dartmouth Golf and Country Club, Bert and Buoy, and Stagecoach Torquay.

Mrs Gemma Blair, Reception teacher at Harbertonford Primary School said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come along and support the school. We had a brilliant evening, and to raise more than £2k for our outdoor play equipment is a great result.

“A huge thank you to everyone who came, helped organise the event, ran the bar, donated prizes or supported us in any way. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our local community and are hoping to run the event again next year.”
