One person was treated at the scene and eight fire stations responded after a blaze in a bathroom in Dartmouth.

Eight fire engines attended the blaze in Duke Street, Dartmouth, at about 11.10pm on Friday evening, after reports of an alarm sounding.

The fire started in the bathroom of the property, before spreading to the kitchen, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

The casualty was treated on scene by ambulance crews. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

"Prompt actions undoubtedly stopped the fire spreading to adjacent homes and shops," group manager Rob Crude said.

Crews who attended were from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Totnes, Buckfastleigh, Torquay, Paignton, Honiton and Bere Alston.

The scene was officially closed at 5.51pm on Saturday evening.
