Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team and RNLI Lifeguards South Devon were alerted after a group of paddleboarders that had not returned to Bantham.

Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard (MRCC) at around 6pm on Saturday, 7 September, to reports from RNLI Lifeguards South Devon of a group of paddle boarders that had "not returned to Bantham and maybe in distress".

A spokesperson for Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team said: "RNLI Lifeguards from Bantham and Sedgewell Cove were already underway with the search for the group, using their Inshore Rescue Boats.

"Thankfully as the team were making their way to the scene, news came through to group had been safely located by the Lifeguards and were being assisted back to Bantham, so the team stood down.

"Remember if a coastal emergency, dial 999 ask for the Coastguard."
