Police officer "punched, kicked, bitten and spat at" by teens after being called to the scene of an alleged assault

A police officer was "punched, kicked, bitten and spat at" when he attempted to arrest a teenage girl following an alleged assault on another teenager in Kingsbridge on Friday night. 

The police officer was called to Wallingford Road just before 8pm on Friday night, following reports of an assault involving a group of teenagers.

It was reported that a girl had been "assaulted to the head and had been spat at" on Friday, March 25.

When he attempted to arrest a suspect, the police officer was "punched, kicked, bitten and spat at". A second officer was also assaulted when he tried to assist his colleague.

The situation moved to Embankment Road and it is thought that at least one of the officers used pepper spray to try and control the situation. 

Three 14-year-old girls from Kingsbridge were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency service worker and two of the girls were further arrested on suspicion of assault.

They were later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

 

The full statement from Devon and Cornwall Police is as follows: 

"Police were called at 7.50pm on Friday night to Kingsbridge following reports 

"It was reported that a girl had been assaulted to the head and had been spat at.

"On arrival, an officer was punched, kicked, bitten and spat at as he attempted to detain an individual. A second officer was also assaulted whilst assisting his colleague.

"Three 14 -year-old girls from Kingsbridge were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency service worker and two of the girls were further arrested on suspicion of assault.

"They were later released under investigation pending further enquiries."
