Cliff House - Salcombe

Situated on the Salcombe Estuary with unbeatable views across the beaches of East Portlemouth, Cliff House is a treasured part of the community and a unique choice for weddings, celebrations and meetings.

Cliff House Salcombe is a historic waterfront building in the heart of the town. Left in Trust to the town by Salcombe’s greatest benefactor, the late Andrew McIlwraith, a self made businessman; whose bequest was for this iconic building to be used for the people of Salcombe. Cliff House established charitable status in 1922 and since then the building has been “the home” of the Yacht Club; has a ‘Reading Room’ (the Library) and in more recent times “the home” of the Town Council office. The main ‘Assembly Room’ is the heart of the House and a much loved venue, that has over the years been used to host all types of events from: weddings; parties; music; theatre; entertainment; society and club meetings; film nights; dinner dances; public meetings for the town’s residents; trade fairs; fine dining and disco’s! The House has a fully equipped commercial kitchen; large prep room; licensed bar and a licence to perform civil ceremonies. Overlooking the stunning Salcombe estuary and with panoramic views out to sea, the House sits in one of Salcombe’s most prestigious locations. Our terraces and outdoor venue space is a perfect spot for soaking in the best of Salcombe’s coastal landscape and watching all of the activity on the water.

Everything we do at the House is done for the preservation of this historic building and to maintain it for the future generations of Salcombe; for its residents and the town’s visitors to enjoy.

We offer various event spaces at the House that can be hired for weddings and private functions. We also curate our own ticketed events; such as our signature New Years Eve celebration; regular dinner dances; music nights; food experiences; talks and fairs and proceeds from all events goes directly into the running and upkeep of the building (reg charity no: 1146359).
