Pub attempts to connect residents with lost packages following "stolen" deliveries

The Fisherman's Rest in Aveton Gifford is attempting to reconnect deliveries with their owners after an EVRI driver is sacked. 

The Fisherman's Rest has discovered a cache of packages that had been dumped in Aveton Gifford and staff want to get them back to their rightful owners. 

They have packages for the following people: 

• L Cater, Kingston
• J Jackson, St Anne's Chapel
• S Harvey, Avon Bridge
• A Jenkins, Bridge End
• Adam, Aveton Gifford
• D Irish, Kingsbridge
• E Easton, Torr Park
• B Fuller, Aveton Gifford
• S Griffiths, Bigbury on Sea

Libby from the Fisherman's Rest explained the situation as "a nightmare", saying: "[The] whole of AG is missing parcels. Loads of people had other peoples' parcels from other villages, one of our customs found about 10 parcels in hedge/ field. We have loads here we trying to get back to the owners."

Local resident Luke Jones organised an investigation after he noticed that photos posted by local residents on social media to locate parcels started to look familiar at the end of January.

Luke posted on Facebook to explain that he now had evidence of more than 70 missing parcels in just five days, more than 40 households impacted, eight villages in the failure zone and 15 confirmed delivery photos of the "white door". 

The police are now involved in the investigation into the missing and stolen parcels, with a spokesperson for Kingsbridge Police posting: "We have been notified following a number of reports of parcels due to be delivered by a courier being stolen in Kingsbridge, Loddiswell and the surrounding areas.

"We are currently investigating the reports received.

"Anybody who believes they may also have been victim of such a theft, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to report it via 101 or the force website. 

"Investigating officers will then make contact in due course."

EVRI has been contacted for comment, and have also been quoted as saying: "We’re committed to making sure every parcel is carefully looked after, and we apologise to local customers who have experienced any issues with their deliveries.

"Following an investigation with our delivery partner in the area, we can confirm that the driver in question will no longer be delivering on behalf of Evri.

"The overwhelming majority of our couriers are highly regarded by customers, with an average star rating this year of 4.6 out of 5.

"Anyone still requiring help regarding their delivery can get in touch with our dedicated customer service team."
