MAD Kids are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a classic and a flying car

MAD Kids are celebrating two decades of entertaining audiences across the South Hams as they present Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. 

Malborough Amateur Dramatics Kids were formed in 2002 and are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, presenting the classic story of the down-on-his-luck inventor who turns a broken-down Grand Prix car into a fancy vehicle for his children - who then go off on a magical fantasy adventure to save their grandfather in a far-off land. 

Director Claire Tapper has been at the helm for 17 years and said: "We couldn’t let such a special anniversary pass without celebrating in style and what a way to do so with such a well-known classic. We just couldn’t resist the chance to get a flying car on to the stage!"

MAD Kids was formed in 2002, originally formed as a club for the youngsters of Malborough to get involved with, working towards a small showcase for parents and friends at All Saints Church in the village.

Very quickly, the group became so popular that they outgrew the church, and in 2005 the group put on its first production in Malborough Village Hall: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The rest, as they say, is history. 

Who would have thought the group would go from putting on an evening of songs to producing award-winning shows? From Disney classics to modern productions and old musical favourites, MAD Kids has gone from strength to strength.
