Closure of A379 causes mayhem in the back-lanes

Local equestrian Jay ward said;

"Chillington area folk. If you are using the back lanes to loop round the road closure please take care and drive slowly. Those of us who live and work up there are not trying to get in the way, we are just trying to tend to our animals and get on and off our properties. We are not just attempting to hold you up further. We are trying to leave gateways clear for extra passing places and not taking our horses out on the roads during this time to reduce waiting times. However as on day one of the closure our yard cat has been run over, I have been sworn at for stopping to unlock my gate to get in and later on verbally abused because a visiting vets parked in our gateway (which is NOT a passing spot but we try and keep it clear to be used as one) I'm feeling a bit ***** off."

The closure is for essential flood alleviation works at the junction of Coleridge Lane. The road will be closed between Coleridge Lane and Homestead and the published diversion route for through traffic is via Totnes Cross. The road will is closed weekdays only.

Shuttle buses are running either side of the closure as shown below.

Plus, an off-peak taxi service will run from Chillington to Kingsbridge, via Stokenham and Torcross. There is a subsidised fare of £1 each way. This service must be booked 24 hours in advance as shown below.
