Salcombe Town Council has closed the Victoria Quay footpath due to "a void beneath the surface of the quay and various areas of bulging and instability".

In a statement released by the town council, it explains: "Following a structural engineers report, the surface could collapse at any time and that is the reason for the closure.

"Please do not enter - the path is formally closed to the public on safety grounds. Works are in progress to enable the wall to be fixed as soon as possible. We very much appreciate your patience while we endeavour to make the quay safe again.

"Let’s help each other. Thank you."
