KEVICC to hold open meeting on proposed land sale and future investment in school
FeaturedNewKEVICC is inviting "members of the school and wider Totnes community" to an open meeting to "discuss the proposed sale of some school land" and plans for "continued community access to the site".
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 10 November, at 5.30pm in the Ariel Theatre, and will provide an opportunity for members of the community to hear directly from KEVICC principal Alan Salt and Education South West CEO Matthew Shanks about the background to the proposed sale, ask questions and find out more about plans to invest the proceeds directly back into KEVICC.
ESW has confirmed that it is moving forward with plans for the sale of some land at KEVICC following approval from the Department for Education (DfE).
Importantly, existing sports facilities, including the all-weather pitch and the grass area directly alongside it, will be retained and will continue to be available for community use.
A spokesperson for KEVICC said: "The college has recently opened up a further grass pitch to community groups who are able to use this site with authorisation and free of charge.
"Any proceeds from the future sale will be reinvested directly into KEVICC, ensuring that the funding remains within the Totnes community.
"The investment will support significant refurbishment and modernisation across the school estate, including improvements to buildings and facilities both inside and out. This will help ensure KEVICC can continue to provide high-quality facilities for local children for decades to come."
Alan Salt, principal of KEVICC, said: “We know that the future of this land matters to our school and wider community, and we understand that people will have questions about the proposals.
“We want to be open and transparent about what is proposed, why the sale is taking place and, importantly, what it will mean for our students and the wider community.
“The investment will enable us to make significant improvements across our school estate, helping us provide the high-quality facilities our students deserve, while retaining our existing sports facilities for both the school and community to use.”
Matthew Shanks, CEO of Education South West, said: “We completely understand that any proposal involving school land will be of significant interest to the people of Totnes. The open meeting is an important opportunity for us to explain the proposals directly, answer questions and listen to the local community.”
