South Hams District Council is saying that as part of their "commitment to tackle climate change within our fleet of vehicles", they have been trialling the use of three electric vans.

SHDC is saying that the use of three electric vans for their Car Parking and Localities teams to "reduce our carbon emissions".

Watch their video on the electric vehicles trial:

A spokesperson for SHDC said: "As well as the electric vans, we have also been trialling a brand new electric sweeper instead of our usual diesel sweeper, which can charge in less than 100 minutes.

"Making this swap, reduces carbon emissions by six tonnes per year and can help avoid harmful emissions which can impact respiratory and cardiac conditions.

"The combined effort of these changes will avoid 18 tonnes of Co2 in a year, the same as powering four average three-bedroom homes for a year.

"As the South Hams is a large district to cover, we are looking to phase the replacement of our vehicles to make sure our operations continue undisrupted."
