SHDC say it is "helping communities to deliver more homes"
South Hams District Council are helping communities create more good quality and affordable homes for local people.
In February, South Hams announced the creation of a new Housing Officer, you can read the original article here: SHDC launches new housing support for communities.
It's South Hams Housing Officer is there to "help communities remove some of the barriers they face when trying to bring forward housing projects in their area".
The council wants to "help kickstart housing projects and connect communities with partners so together, it can deliver homes where they are needed most".
Who can get involved?
There are several ways that community housing projects can happen, with examples including:
- Homes can be developed or owned by a community land trust
- Affordable self-build
- Partnerships between the community and a housing partner. This includes a registered provider, local authority or other body.
- The focus of the South Hams Housing Offer is to provide funding for groups to research and, if appropriate, formalise into an appropriate legal entity. In addition, it can provide support and funding to bring forward sites for development.
In addition to grant funding, there are various resources available to help community groups, and links to some of these are included HERE.
Hear from Stoke Gabriel Community Land Trust about how the South Hams Housing Offer is helping them do just that in the council's recent video below:
