All ice cream colours and an eclectic mix of decor from some of our favourite aspects of life by the sea, The Winking Prawn is a family run and family friendly restaurant where we aim to offer something for everyone. It’s date night, evenings out with friends, family lunches and chats over coffee. Our dressing up box has gained a legendary reputation in its own right amongst adults and children alike, making for endless entertainment and memorable holiday snaps.
Serving a hearty buffet breakfast first thing in the morning, easy lunches, joy filled dinners and plenty of teas, cakes, coffees and ice creams, much of our menu is characterised by the local seafood that we’re so lucky to have available on our doorstep. Firm favourites are the buckets of prawns and platters of shellfish, but we’re also partial to big juicy steaks, Devon cream teas and an endless supply of beer and wine.
In addition to our main restaurant area, we have a garden, and a decking area which forms part of the garden when the weather is fine and is covered by a marquee when it’s wet. Sit outside on sunny days, pottering up from the beach to guzzle Salcombe Dairy ice cream, or grab a drink while children play in the sandpit. In the summer we also serve an evening barbecue in the garden.
While we are open throughout the year, our opening times do vary with the seasons. Our latest opening times will be posted on the website, so please do keep an eye on them before you visit. It is also worth noting that breakfast, lunch and drinks are ordered at the restaurant counter, and don’t require you to book. Dinner, which is only served inside the main restaurant and not in the garden or on the deck, is table service and requires a booking, which you can make online or over the phone.
Whatever time of day or year you visit us we look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of South Devon, whether you’re visiting us for the first time or coming back as old friends.

The restaurant was pleasant, well presented and very tidy. We loved the cosy lighting and look of the place. The staff were really friendly, kind and we didn't have to wait long for anything.
The food here is excellent. It tasted as good as it looked, however it is on the more expensive side.
I recommend this place for a good meal out in the evening. As well, the location just outside from the beach is nice.
