Charleton and West Alvington pupils visit Salcombe Lifeboat Station

Pupils from Charleton C of E Academy and West Alvington C of E Academy teamed up for a seaside visit to Salcombe RNLI, where they learned about the work of the lifeboat crew and the importance of staying safe on the water.

The children travelled by bus to Salcombe, where they were welcomed by the RNLI crew. They had the chance to climb aboard the lifeboat, find out how the rescue boat operates and meet some of the people involved in keeping those on the water safe.

The children asked plenty of questions and shared their knowledge of lifesaving and water safety.

The visit reflected the schools’ commitment to providing enriching learning experiences that broaden pupils’ horizons, while giving children from the two schools a chance to learn together.

Hannah Ruston, Headteacher at Charleton C of E Academy and West Alvington CofE Academy, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about the RNLI and the important work its crews do to keep people safe on the water.

"They were full of questions and really enjoyed getting aboard the lifeboat and meeting the crew. We’re very grateful to everyone at Salcombe RNLI for making us so welcome and giving the children such a memorable experience.”
