Fire service offers BBQ advice after being called to beach bin fire
Kingsbridge Fire Station was called to Bantham Beach car park on Saturday, where a bin fire had been caused by a hot BBQ being discarded.
Kingsbridge Fire Station were called on Saturday, 5 April, at 6.55pm, when they used a hose reel to extinguish the fire, which had been caused by a disposable barbecue being put in a bin while still hot.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The quick actions of a member of the public, prior to our arrival, to empty the bins contents onto the ground certainly prevented escalation of the incident and spread to other bins.
"Please ensure barbecues are fully extinguished and cool prior to disposal."
You can find more information and advice about using barbecues, especially disposable ones, on the DSFRS website: www.dsfire.gov.uk/safety/outdoors/barbecues
