Kingfishers Masters back with a blast!

February was a successful month for Kingsbridge Kingfishers Swimming Club, with the club sending a team to compete at a Masters (over 18) competition for the first time in several years. 

A relay team of Robert Dorey, Will Rawlinson, Richard Forman and James Richards came back as medalists from Millfield School, each swimming two lengths of front crawl in a combined time of only one minute and 45 seconds.

Emma Noyce was the fifth member of the squad to make the trip up to Somerset for the Royal Navy Open, winning individual medals in several events.

Masters swimming is mostly seen as a sociable way of keeping fit and strong in the pool, with the occasional race an added bonus. Several swimmers who swam with Kingfishers as juniors have recently returned to train as adults on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

Masters success in February was more than matched by the juniors, with three swimmers winning a total of 8 medals in the Devon County Championships.

Swimming against the very best in Devon is always a tough ask - in fact Kingsbridge hadn’t won a medal at this event for four years - so to bring eight medals back to Quayside Leisure Centre is another sign the club is travelling in the right direction.

Emilia McKinlay won her first Devon medals, all bronze, in the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle. Ethan Clack’s best medal was a silver in the 200 Breaststroke, while Chloe Morris’ best result was also a silver in the 50 Breaststroke. Being ranked second in Devon in their best events is an incredible achievement for both swimmers. In addition, Lucas Quiggin and Faye Morris both qualified for finals in at least two events.

March will see the club host their presentation evening, while the build up for Regionals continues with the Two Counties Meet on the 16th and 17th.
