Kingsbridge road will reopen tomorrow - three weeks early!

Kingsbridge Town Council is planning a "small community celebration" to mark the reopening of the bottom of Fore Street, which has been closed since March. 

The road will be officially reopened tomorrow morning, Friday, 14 August, at 10am. 

The celebration will begin with a welcome from Town Crier, Roger Pinder, followed by the official ribbon‑cutting carried out jointly by Kingsbridge Mayor, Cllr Julia Wingate, and Bro Potter, the contract manager who has overseen the project from start to finish.

After the ribbon is cut, a procession of classic cars will travel up Fore Street, accompanied by emergency service vehicles (subject to operational availability).

Mayor Wingate said: “We are incredibly grateful to the operatives who have worked tirelessly on this project, completing the culvert restoration three weeks earlier than anticipated. Their dedication and skill have delivered a solution to an exceptionally complex engineering challenge.

"I would also like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and understanding throughout the road closure. The restored culvert will ensure the long‑term stability of Fore Street and strengthen the resilience of our local infrastructure. We look forward to welcoming everyone back into the town.”

In addition, it has been confirmed the existing concession of free parking at Quay Car Park and Fore Street Car Park after 2pm will continue until 31 August, thanks to an agreement between Devon County Council and South Hams District Council. This extension aims to support residents, businesses, and visitors as Fore Street fully reopens.
