Neighbours rally around those affected by the Stokeham Fire

Neighbours and local people have donated a whole new wardrobe to one of the victims of this week’s Stokenham Fire.

Chillington Post Office and Shop took to social media today to say they were collecting “good quality clothing for one lady that we have been in contact with so far that has lost everything in the fire”.

Within six hours they were back posting to say: “Thank you so much to those who donated clothes and shoes so quickly - we have plenty for now and will drop these off this evening.”

South Hams residents have been itching to do something to help those affected in the tragic fire since they learned that the fourteenth century Tradesman’s Arms pub and three other thatched cottages had been destroyed on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The speed of the donations to Chillington shop has been matched by the speed at which a JustGiving page set up to support those affected smashed its original target of £1,000. It is now well on its way to smashing its £5,000 target too.

Other fundraising events are being organised by Marvel Fitness, you can find out more by clicking HERE. For the full story on the fire, you can click HERE.
