Nicholas Rowell Haulage has been a family run business for 50 years, with the next generation now running the show - even if the previous one hasn’t quite retired yet.

NR Haulage provides a wide range of goods and services from their Torr Quarry location, for everything from your small garden project to a large scale industrial development and everything in between.

The haulage side has two arms, one is the arctics with walking floor trailers, which move bulk around the county and the rest of the country, and the other is their fleet of tipper trucks, which are used to transport building materials purchased from their business site to anywhere their customers need it.

With tipper carrying capacities from one tonne to 19.5 tonne, including a tipper with crane, they have everything you could need, and their tippers can be hired on a day work, tonnage or load basis.

Alongside haulage, Nicholas Rowell can undertake servicing and repair for commercial vehicles from vans and trucks to horseboxes and any other HGV. With their experienced commercial and large vehicle mechanics and two fully equipped workshops at Torr Quarry, NR Haulage can offer a wide range of services from servicing and MOTs to full overhauls of your vehicle.

NR Haulage also has the only weighbridge on the South Hams, so if you need to obtain the weight of your van, trailer, caravan or truck, this is the place to do it! The weighbridge is open whenever the office is open.

The availability of the weighbridge also means you can bring your own vehicle or trailer to source aggregate from them - whether it’s a shovel-load of decorative stone for your garden project, or 20 tonnes of gravel for your commercial scheme. Cheaper than a garden centre and more local than a big chain, where would you want to go anywhere else.

Nicholas Rowell Haulage began in The Mounts in 1973, starting with one tipper truck out of the home office by Nicholas and Judith Rowell, moving to Torr Quarry in 1987. From there the business has expanded to provide a wide range of services: coal and logs, kindling and firelighters, muckaway, 24 vehicle recovery,  plasterboard recycling, boat and caravan scrapping, machinery hire, they are an air product agent, secure indoor boat storage, secure container storage, outdoor storage for boats, trailers, caravans plant and more.

NR Haulage is now run by the next generation, Jo, Jonathan and Philip Rowell, who joined in the 1990s out of school, although Nicholas is still working, driving and generally refusing to relax and retire!

There is so much that NR Haulage can help you with, both with private and commercial projects, so check out their SouthHams.com listing HERE, call 01548 521333 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
