The accountants and business advisors supporting individuals and local businesses in South Devon
A small business on the high street in Chudleigh, Bibby’s Accountants and Business Advisors is the company whose goal is to give businesses and individuals reassuring support and sensible advice when it comes to everything from business development to your tax return. Here, Claire Leach explains who they are and what they do…
Tell me a bit about the background of Bibby’s Accountants and Business Advisors?
Bibby’s Accountants and Business Advisors has been around for many years and is currently run by Directors Michael Trigg and Kelly Fulford Green. Michael qualified in 1975 and has worked for local firms of Chartered Accountants as well as spending four years in Zambia with Deloitte. From 1994 to 2006 he taught professional accountants before taking over Bibbys. Meanwhile, Kelly joined the practice at the beginning of 2009 and specialises in corporate and non-corporate businesses as well as personal tax cases. We’re a small, friendly business and we pride ourselves on being approachable and giving sound and sensible advice. The company was originally a family business and we really try to continue that welcoming ethos.
What exactly do you do?
We are a firm of chartered accountants based in Chudleigh and Kingsbridge. We’re a fairly small team and offer everything from general accountancy for businesses to business development, personal tax planning and specialist tax services. Central to what we do is supporting local businesses and individuals to grow and develop.
What’s unique about Bibby’s Accountants?
We are a very approachable organisation. Sometimes accountants can seem a bit intimidating for individuals and SMEs, but we have a really friendly approach and competitive pricing. We really try to offer reassurance and guidance as well as a high level of professionalism. Sometimes just doing your own tax return can feel really daunting, so knowing someone has done it properly for you can be a real relief and that’s the sort of thing we’re here for.
What would surprise people most about what you do?
Most people don’t realise we have an office in Chudleigh. I think it’s because a lot of our work comes by word of mouth. People recommend us because they use us, which is great. Our advertising is to a minimum because we’re really mindful about providing quality over quantity and wanting to make sure that we grow organically so we can maintain standards.
How big is the team?
There’s 10 members of staff and our main office is in Chudleigh. We also have a smaller office in Kingsbridge. We have four fully qualified accountants, two bookkeepers, two trainees and myself doing office management and administration as well as Carol in Kingsbridge who does the payroll. We are also passionate about providing local employment and job opportunities so we always aim to have a trainee or apprentice in our offices and provide them with opportunities to launch a successful career. Luke, who’s one of our qualified accountants now started as trainee.
What plans do you have moving forward?
We are in a very positive place as a business and just want to keep offering the best service possible and making people feel confident in the support their receiving.
