Four emergency services were called to rescue a kitesurfer from the waves off Burgh Island.
The RNLI Salcombe All Weather Lifeboat, The Baltic Exchange III, launched on Tuesday evening, 28 December, along with Hope Cove Lifeboat, Rescue Helicopter 924 and HM Coastguard in response to a report of a kitesurfer in difficulty off Burgh Island.
A spokesperson for RNLI Salcombe said: "On route to the incident reports of additional people in the water started to filter through.
"Once on scene it became apparent there was only one casualty in imminent danger, however with the position of the casualty and the prevailing sea conditions it soon became apparent that the safest method of extraction would be by Helo [helicopter] winch.
"With the casualty successfully winched to safety and returned to the beach, and the two additional surfers accounted for, all emergency services were stood down and returned to their stations.
"Once again, a notable example of emergency services working as one!"
