Fire fighters battle barn blaze

Ivybridge and Buckfastleigh Fire Stations were called to a barn blaze in South Brent at 10pm on 26 November along with a water bowser from Plympton Fire Station.

A spokesperson for Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: "A flexible duty officer arrived first and was able to inform us that approximately 18 tons of hay was well alight within a wooden-construction barn.
"On arrival, the officer in charge (OIC) committed BA teams with hose reels to knock the fire back."

The spokesperson continue: "The OIC made pumps four for Breathing Apparatus (BA) wearers and we were joined by Modbury Fire Station and Ashburton Fire Station, resulting in a total of 14 BA wearers being used into the early hours.
"Crews worked with the farmer, utilising tractors to remove the smouldering bales to the field, which allowed us to dampen down remaining hot spots. Due to the initial actions of crews and the timely assistance with the tractor minimal damage was caused to the barn."
