SHDC urges people to use outside recreation spaces
This summer, South Hams District Council is suggesting residents might want to avoid the busy crowds and take the family to some of the many outdoor recreation spaces in the South Hams to have fun and keep fit.
A spokesperson for SHDC said: "With a wide range of sport areas on offer across the district, ranging from spacious recreation grounds, playing pitches, tennis courts to multi-use games areas, there are a huge assortment of activities to keep everyone entertained.
"For the tennis enthusiasts and future Johanna Kontas and Andy Murrays amongst you, there are 37 tennis courts in the South Hams, including many free community courts, and a number of clubs, which you can pay to join.
"If you know your Kick-Turn from your Ollie, or perhaps you just want to learn, then the skate parks are where all the action is. With seven across the district, it is a great place for all ages to have fun, but it might be worth getting your balance and movement right first before trying the trickier moves!
"There are also nine bowling greens in the South Hams where you can take seconds to learn the sport of bowls and the rest of your life to master the skill. It is not as easy as you may think. So why not have a go and take the opportunity to get out and try something new?
"You can also take advantage of the recreation grounds and play spaces for a game of football, rugby or for just simply flying a kite or throwing a Frisbee. It is the simple delights of spending time with family and friends away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist hot spots.
"Please do continue, as you have been, to RESPECT the space you are visiting by putting litter into the bins provided and if they are full when you visit, please take the litter back home to throw away.
"Help the council to PROTECT others by following the COVID rules and PLAY safely by giving others space to feel comfortable during their visit.
"Many of our towns and parishes have these areas available, they are free and open to use now."
