Kingsbridge Food Bank has launched a GoFundMe and is asking for suggestions as they search for a new home.

The team has been at the old Avon Farmers site in Kingsbridge for six years, despite it originally being a temporary solution.

Gerrie Messer, Kingsbridge Food Bank, said: "On Sunday, 6 September 2020, following our very temporary stay at the Scout hut and being very short of options, I asked if we could borrow the old Avon Farmers building on Wallingford Road, for a couple of weeks while we found somewhere more permanent to house our foodbank.

"Fast forward to now and we’re still at the Avon Centre, six years and 50 days later. We’re finally looking for a new home. Our current landlord, a very generous businessman, has kept us sheltered, without charge, for all this time.

"But it’s time now for us to move on as there are exciting plans for the Avon Centre site. The demolition team is on standby – to bring down anything that hasn’t already shifted naturally around us! There is an amazing employment opportunity coming to the town at the site, with much needed space for some of our elderly relatives."

This does mean that the foodbank needs a new home.

Their essentials list is:

  • It needs to have power, running water, toilets and decent access
  • Some heating would mean that our volunteers are less cold this winter
  • A handful of parking spaces
  • A watertight roof
  • It needs to be a decent size (around 1000 sq feet)
  • It needs to be ready to move into, almost immediately, or in the next few weeks
  • The cost of running the “space” needs to be manageable – either by funding or donations

Gerrie added: "We know we already ask a lot, from our sponsors, donors and supporters, and we understand that the events in the world are affecting more of you every day. But we need your help to fundraise enough money to rent or buy our own space before the foodbank becomes homeless."
