Cookworthy Museum hosts exhibition about shipwrecks in the South Hams
Cookworthy Museum is hosting an exhibition on shipwrecks in the local area.
Using information sourced from local historians Roger Barrett and the late Kendall McDonald, among others, the Cookworthy Museum exhibition tells the stories of the disaster, survival, seamanship, wreckers and rescuers, in collaboration with Salcombe Maritime Museum.
The exhibition is taking place in Harbour House, the Promenade, Kingsbridge, and is open on every day until Sunday, 9 October, 10am – 4pm.
The exhibition, which features photographs, artefacts and stories, focuses on local shipwrecks across the millennia, including lifeboat crews, rescuers, residents, villagers and local people.
The 1916 Salcombe Lifeboat Disaster, which claimed the life of 13 men who rushed into the breach with cork life-jackets and a wooden rowing lifeboat, also features prominently.
Check out the exhibition this week.
