KEVICC invites local groups to make use of its grass sports pitch 

King Edward VI Community College (KEVICC) in Totnes, is inviting local community organisations to make use of its grass pitch adjacent to the all-weather pitch. 

The all-weather pitch is already available for community use and regularly used, but local people have been concerned after signs went up calling the Barracks Hill area, "private land" with "no right of way". 

The school already has agreements in place with a wide range of community sports groups who use the all-weather pitch and is keen to hear from other organisations that would like to use the grass pitch for their sporting activities.

Groups interested in using this facility are asked to get in touch to arrange sessions and formalise access arrangements:

• To book your slot for the “Grass Pitch” adjacent to the All-Weather Pitch, go to the school website – www.kingedwardvi.org.uk. 
• Click on the link to the Community Use that will appear on the homepage
• Follow the instructions on the booking system, selecting “Grass Pitch” and select your chosen time slot
• You will receive an email to the address you provide, confirming your booking. This email will contain the security code to the car park which authorises you to use the carpark for the duration of your booking.

 Becoming an authorised user will give community groups dedicated access to the facility, including access codes for the nearby car park, while helping the school to manage who is using the site and when.

ESW has confirmed that it is moving forward with plans for the sale of some land at KEVICC following approval from the Department for Education (DfE). Importantly, existing sports facilities, including the all-weather pitch and the grass area alongside it will be retained and will continue to be available for authorised community use.

The image below shows, with respect to the site on the “Elmhirst” side of the road, the land which will be sold, and the all-weather pitch and adjacent grass pitch (now available for booking free of charge). The grass area marked “A” is the facility referred to above.  

Once sold, access to the grass pitch and the all-weather pitch will be maintained, and parking will remain available.

Any proceeds from the future sale will be reinvested directly into KEVICC, ensuring the funding remains within the Totnes community. The school will continue to operate as it does currently, across the Redworth and Kennicott sites, while using its sports facilities on the Elmhirst site.

The investment will support significant refurbishment and modernisation across the school estate, including internal and external improvements to buildings and facilities. This will help ensure KEVICC can continue to provide high-quality facilities for local children and young people for decades to come.

Alan Salt, principal at KEVICC said: “We already work closely with a number of local sports groups, but we know there are other organisations in the town that would like to benefit from the facilities we have available.

“It is important that we know who is using the site and when, both so that we can manage access effectively and keep the site safe and secure. If you run a group in the town and would like to use our facilities, please do get in touch so we can discuss your requirements, arrange access and set you up as an authorised user.

“The all-weather sports pitch and the grass area directly alongside it will be retained for community sports use, so we are keen to establish long-term, sustainable arrangements with local groups that will allow the facilities to continue benefiting the wider Totnes community.”
