Salcombe Rugby Club to offer "warm space", needs volunteers
Salcombe Rugby Club, Holy Trinity Church and Salcombe Town Council are forming a group together to organise and fund a "Salcombe Warm Space".
The three organisations are calling for volunteers to host the space at the rugby club during opening hours.
Duties would include making tea and coffee and generally keeping the club rooms safe and tidy.
A spokesperson posted on the Salcombe Town Council Facebook page, saying: "Our plan is for teams of two people for a two and half-hour “shift”, although individuals and larger groups are welcome.
"The size of the volunteer pool will define how often and how long we can open, but the club have very generously made their facilities available every week day.
"If you can spare a few hours a week please give this project serious thought."
If you are wanting to volunteer, call Roger Moore for more information on 01548 842006. The plan is for the space to start opening on Monday, 9 January.
The plans for opening a warm space for people is heartwarming, but somewhat shocking in a town with an average house price of £901,308. (source)
It is also worth noting that while the wholesale cost of gas has dropped and according to Forbes in November 2022, the five super-majors - Exxon Mobil, Shell, Chevron, TotalEnergies, and BP - has annualised profits average to $45.2 billion per year. (source)
The average cost of energy for an "average" three-bedroom house has reached £3,000 a year. (source)
