A spokesperson for Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team posted on their social media, saying: "Once on scene the team realise the potential severity of the situation due to the sea state and horrendous weather.

"Kingsbridge Coastguard had also arrived on scene. Falmouth Coastguard also alerted Salcombe RNLI, who were on route to assist, as well as our Coastguard rescue helicopter from Newquay.

"Thankfully, we spotted the boarder in the distance, they had managed to climb around the rocks on foot, and up onto the relative safety of the beach.

"The team quickly triaged the [casualty], who was unhurt, but tired. Advice was given to them and their friends, and the team stood down.

"This was the second time we had been paged to people in difficulty in the water, during a storm. Please, please be keep a safe distance from the sea during these storms. Water carries more power than most people expect and any rescues are always complicated by weather like this!"
