Bus company withdraws from service due to lack of drivers
Tally Ho is due to withdraw from the contract they have with Devon County Council to provide bus services in the area.
Tally Ho is currently providing seven services across the South Hams, including Kingsbridge to Loddiswell, Thurlestone and Hope Cove, and Totnes to Kingsbridge then Salcombe.
Both of these services are a lifeline for those who use them, especially if they don't have access to a car or another form of transport.
Tally Ho has said they are "withdrawing from the contract to run the service". Don McIntosh, Tally Ho Coaches, said the service would be "put out to tender by the county council and another operator will take over" and added "I do not expect the service to be discontinued".
He said: "The reason for our withdrawal is that we have run out of bus drivers, we simply have no staff. Over the last year we have advertised extensively, trained new drivers and explored every avenue to find recruits but we have not been able to solve the problem. In recent months the pressures have become intolerable and we simply cannot continue. There is no other reason for our decision."
We have contacted Devon County Council and are awaiting a statement from them about the future of the services. We will update this article as soon as we can.
