Local fire crews are recruiting on-call fire fighters

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting on call fire-fighters at three South Hams stations.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting on call fire fighters at Modbury, Salcombe and Kingsbridge stations.

In order to be eligible, you need to be over the age of 18 and live or work no more than five minutes from your nearest station.

A spokesperson for Kingsbridge Fire Station posted on social media to give an insight into what it means to be a firefighter in the South Hams: "Ever thought what it would be like to go to work and not know what you are going to.

"When you arrive at station you get an idea of what you are going to have to do.

"But then you arrive at incident and you realise it’s lots of things that you are going to have to do from heavy lifting, setting in a hydrant, delivering equipment where it’s needed on the incident ground, and that’s just a taster of the first ten minutes of an incident.

"But we have a great team working to get things done as they are needed.

"But we need to recruit some more people to join the team’s at Modbury, Salcombe and Kingsbridge if you think you have what it takes to be an on-call firefighter - dedication, resilience and determination to get the job done."

You can find out more about what you need, visit the DSFRS website: www.dsfire.gov.uk/careers/on-call-firefighters or find out more by visiting your local station on a drill night. For Salcombe and Kingsbridge, that's Mondays between 7-9pm or in Modbury on a Tuesday between 7-9pm.
