Salcombe crew member is elected to the RNLI Council
Salcombe RNLI crewmember, James Marshall, has been elected to serve on the RNLI Council in a professional capacity.
Salcombe RNLI has passed on their congratulations to their crew member James 'Bomber' Marshall.
James, who has been a volunteer member since November 2017 and has been a qualified Inshore Lifeboat Helm since October 2019, has recently been elected to serve as a member of the RNLI Council.
The RNLI Council is a "group of volunteers who advise the trustees and the RNLI Executive Team on the strategic direction and challenges and opportunities for the charity" that meets three times a year "to consider the progress of charity against their strategic goals".
A spokesperson for Salcome RNLI said: "As a lifeboat station, to have a crew member as a council member is a real privilege. The insight James will bring to the council as an active crew member will be invaluable not only by enriching the standing of Salcombe within the institution but will also bring ‘coal face’ knowledge to other members of the council management team."
James got his nickname “Bomber”, after referring to a shout to a fishing vessel on fire he had been involved in as a “floating bomb” when being interviewed by the BBC for their programme Saving Lives At Sea.
The spokesperson added: "Congratulations James, the station, the Lifeboat community, and the town of Salcombe is proud to have you as a member of the council."
