Salcombe RNLI rescued a man who was found clinging to the side of the East Portlemouth ferry.

Salcombe Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched recently to assist after a call to "a capsized sailing vessel and a person in the water", reported to be in the vicinity of Smalls Cove within the Harbour.

Just after they launched, the lifeboat approached the East Portlemouth ferry off Normandy Pontoon, which was "aiding an adult male casualty clinging to the hull of the ferry".

After the RNLI crew confirmed that the man holding on to the ferry was the man they were tasked with looking for, they took over the task of getting him back to shore.

When the casualty was brought ashore Whitestrand Slipway by the ILB crew, he was greeted by members of the RNLI lifeboat and shore crews who provided him with blankets and he had a "welcome warm shower" at the lifeboat station, where he wife met him with some dry clothes.

Meanwhile, the ILB returned to the scene of the capsize to "recover the vessel to Batson Slipway where it was righted and placed on its trailer by members of the Lifeboat Crew and Salcombe Harbour Authority".
