40 affordable homes are finished in time for Christmas

South Brent people get new home for Christmas.

Work to build 40 new affordable homes in South Brent has been completed and all residents have moved into their new properties in time for Christmas.

The largest housing association in the South West, LiveWest, teamed up with leading partnerships business, Vistry Partnerships, to tackle the region’s housing shortage with this high-quality development.

The development is set within the Palstone area on the East side of South Brent, benefitting from a location on the South West fringes of Dartmoor National Park with good access to local amenities and the A38.

The development is made up of 25 homes for affordable rent and 15 for shared ownership and has provided a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom accommodation.

Eleanor Stark, Senior Development Manager for LiveWest, said: “We have worked hard with Vistry Partnerships to bring forward this exciting development which has made a big difference to accessing new affordable homes in South Brent.

“Due to the additional funding, the development at South Brent is being delivered as a 100 per cent affordable housing development.

“Our vision is to create homes and communities that people love to live in, and this is a location which definitely supports this.

“We are particularly pleased as the site is located in Dartmoor National Park, where opportunities to provide affordable housing are limited.

“The development has not only delivered new affordable homes for local people within a vibrant village, but it is also really well located for employment and all the health and wellbeing benefits of the National Park.”

Christina Shaw

Christina Shaw cannot speak highly enough of the new development having moved into her new three-bedroom home less than a month ago.

Christina said: “I really love the fact that we live in this brand-new site.

“I have lived in the village of South Brent for 10 years or so and I never thought I would be able to get one of these lovely new homes from LiveWest.

“We are really happy with the property and to know we can be here for the long term is perfect. We are really happy with it.”

The development has benefited from grant-funding from government housing agency Homes England.

Peter Sadler, Managing Director of Vistry Partnerships South West, said: “We are thrilled to have worked with our long-standing partners LiveWest to deliver 40 new affordable homes in South Brent.

“This scheme not only provides much needed affordable homes in a beautiful setting but has created a vibrant and sustainable place for local families to live.”

The leader of South Hams District Council, Cllr Judy Pearce, said: “It was a real pleasure to attend the event at South Brent, even though it was very icy underfoot. The development is lovely.”

Chris Hart, Development Manager for Dartmoor National Park Authority, said: “This is another good example of Dartmoor National Park Authority working with partners to deliver much needed affordable housing for a community within Dartmoor.

“Our planners have gone the extra mile to ensure this is an attractive scheme that fits well within its context and adds to the vitality of South Brent.”
