Coastguard shares round up of 2024 rescues

Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team has taken to social media to share a round up of the incidents that they were called to over 2024. 

As we come to the end of 2024, Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team has shared a round up of what they've been called to over the last 12 months. 

A spokesperson for the Coastguard Rescue Team said: "It’s been a slightly quieter year than normal for the Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team, with the team responding to a total of 50 incidents across South Devon.

"The team have been sent to a variety of incidents along our patch. Some of the incidents include:

• Assisting with the Major incident response to an unexploded WW2 bomb in Plymouth
• A particularly tricky medical evacuation of an injured fisherman at Bolt Head
• Multiple large scale multi agency searches for missing people along the coast

"We have worked alongside so many amazing people and teams this year, and we would just like to take this time to thank them.

"So to start with both our flank teams, Bigbury Coastguard Rescue team and Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, our colleagues at Falmouth Coastguard Maritime Rescue Cordination Centre, local RNLI and Independent life saving teams at RNLI Lifeguards South Devon, Hope Cove Lifeboat, Salcombe RNLI, and Dart RNLI Lifeboat.

"Also thanks to our local Community First Responders and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust paramedics, Devon Air Ambulance, Kingsbridge Police, NCI Prawle Point, Devon and Cornwall Police, and finally our Coastguard Rescue Helicopter team from Rescue 924.

"Working alongside all of these teams seamlessly allows us to all provide the best care and resolve incidents quickly and safely. 

"Our team would not be able to respond and help our community without our amazing families and friends support and patience, so thank you. We would also like to thank all of you for your support over the year from helping during incidents to dropping off biscuits!"
