A message of thanks needs to be given to residents of Grenville Close to the rear of the Tradesmans Arms as they assisted in raising the alarm along with the landlord Kath from the pub. In particular Craig and Ella with Phil knocked on every door of the row whilst the pub was ablaze. They woke up the sleeping residents of the the thatch cottages and ensured everyone was out of their homes. This happened at least 20 minutes before the first tender arrived on the scene. It took two hours for the fire to pass through each property, which sadly could not be prevented as the strong winds and relatively mild evening hampered the efforts of the retained and full time fire service.
