Person taken to hospital after property fire

Two fire crews battled a fire at a thatched property in the middle of the night and one person was taken to hospital.

Modbury and Greenbank Fire Crews were called to a thatched residential property in Yealmpton just after midnight on Friday, July 1.

When fire crews arrived, they discovered the kitchen was on fire and full of smoke.

The fire was contained in the kitchen and was extinguished by fire fighters. According to a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the kitchen was "100% destroyed by fire" and there was "40 per cent smoke and heat damage to a ground floor bathroom".

The spokesperson continued: "One adult suffered from smoke inhalation and was taking to hospital as a precaution. The cause of the fire was accidental."
