Renowned folk artist Jim Causley presents Traditional Songs of Devon - an engaging mix of live performance and illustrated storytelling that celebrates the unique soundscape of the West Country.
With a career devoted to uncovering and sharing the region’s musical treasures, Jim draws inspiration from historic collections by Sabine Baring-Gould, Cecil Sharp, and others, as well as from contemporary voices like Cyril Tawney and Tony Rose. The evening also features material from living tradition bearers alongside some of Jim’s own compositions.
Expect a journey through Devon’s cultural heritage, from the tales of Arscott of Tetcott to the ever-popular Widecombe Fair. Brimming with character, humour, and rich melodies, this event offers both newcomers and folk enthusiasts a warm introduction to the county’s musical traditions.
Jim Causley has been recognised with multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations and is celebrated for his ability to bring audiences together with charm, wit, and musicianship.
The Shilstone Café will be serving drinks and cake from 6:00pm to 7:00pm before the performance.
