Wild Camping
Fully Catered Kayak Camping Adventures
Join a 2-Day Wild Camping Expedition in one of the world’s premier Sea Kayak destinations. Whether it’s your first time in a kayak or you’re an experienced sea paddler, you’ll be blown away by this spectacular coast and abundance of wildlife.
Day 1
Load your kayak and launch from our waterside base. The kayaks are more stable when loaded with kit and are no harder to paddle than when empty. Spend the day exploring the coast and discovering hidden gems only accessible by kayak. Catch fish to add to your evening meal, go for a swim, get up close to wildlife, and picnic on a deserted beach. Enjoy the freedom of having everything you need to be comfortable wherever you decide to stop for the night.
The sea kayaks give you access to beautiful, remote beaches where you can watch the sunset to the sound of gently lapping waves. Sit beside a driftwood fire under a clear starlit sky with delicious quality food and home-baked apple pie.
Camp Craft
Another highlight of the trip is setting up a comfortable camp on a remote beach. Your guide will show you useful tricks and help with putting up your tent if needed. The evening meal is a BBQ and you can add any fish you caught during the day. We provide 1, 2 or 3 man tents, although in good weather many people choose to sleep under the stars.
Day 2
Start the morning with an early swim before breakfast, followed by a bacon sandwich and another fantastic day on the water before returning to Dartmouth. There’s no rush on day 2, but most groups aim to return by mid-afternoon.
Kit List
We provide all kayak equipment, food, and camping gear. Please bring shoes or sandals you don’t mind getting wet, clothes to paddle in, warm outdoor clothing for the evening, and a sleeping bag (we can lend one if needed). The only other thing to pack is a bottle of your favourite wine or beer to enjoy around the campfire.
Bespoke Camping Trip
Looking for a fun and memorable experience for a special occasion? We have spent many years perfecting the ultimate weekend for a group of adventurous people who are keen to enjoy each others company in a stunning wild environment.
We will provide you with all the technical kayaking equipment that you’ll need including a waterproof/breathable kayak jacket and if you are on a fully catered camp we will provide all your camping equipment, food and drinks too.
Friday Night at Raleigh Estate
Your trip starts on Friday evening at our private woodland base camp in a clearing in the woods high on the side of the valley with spectacular views down over the Dart Estuary. The camp is all set up for you; there is a big living tent with a kitchen and log stove and 4 big sleeping tents that can fit about 10 people in each. There is private parking for as many cars as you need and you can arrive any time after 4pm.
Your instructor will meet you and guide you through the woods to our base camp. It’s a 10 min walk into the woods to the camp where you will have everything you need to be comfortable, standing tents, compost loo and kitchen / gathering area as well as a camp fire pit.
Saturday - Sunday
Saturday morning after breakfast we reconvene at the kayaks in Dartmouth where you will pack your kayaks with everything you need for your 2 days on the water. We can start whenever you like on Saturday morning; if you’re keen to get going we say breakfast at 08:00. The kayaks are about a 10min drive away in the centre of Dartmouth; it will take a bit of time to pack up and then regroup at the kayaks so say 10:00 for people who are meeting us in Dartmouth.
The camp on Saturday night will be out on the coast on a remote beach and you will be bringing tents with you in the kayaks and then setting them up when you get to camp. Your instructors can help you with this if need be. It’s up to you when you finish on day 2 but we usually plan to get back around the middle of the afternoon.

User reviews
The 5 days were ideal to get enough time on the skills, use them in varied conditions, build up trip fitness, get a feel for planning and enjoy the wildlife and Jurassic coastline. We were blessed for the most part with good winter weather and occasionally stalked by a grey or common seal when rock hopping.
Rescue drills will always be cold and wet - there's no getting round it; but they were well worth the effort of sorting out and by the end I was confident to use them in anger including self-rescue. The instruction was professional and flexible; tailored to suit needs and fitness with room for a change of pace - the kit setup was also well organised so transition time was efficient.
Winter in Dartmouth has many advantages over summer;
less tourist traffic, a number of uncrowded pubs and Fish & Chips venues serving plentiful hot food and active wildlife occupying areas they would otherwise shy from in the busy summer months.
Would highly recommend to anyone planning a winter Sea Kayak adventure and needing some solid skills behind them to back it. Would also recommend for wildlife enthusiasts who wanted to explore the coastline habitats.
Started with a full safety brief then out on the river for some instruction on paddling techniques in a quiet area, then out onto the coast with cave exploring, paddling round hidden coves, some technical stuff in around rocky areas , then beach a landing for lunch and a chat , back to more beach and coast exploring , our instructor was always close by with encouragement to try the technical stuff but never pushed anyone beyond their comfort zone , all in all a great adventure day out in one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Britain , easily 5 stars, highly recommended
Past the castle there was some swell and we even got to surf back a little , not bad for 2 beginners.
All in all it was a fantastic experience and we would both love to do it again.
Thanks again for a great experience, what a brilliant way of seeing Dartmouth anew and experiencing some of its wildlife up close and personal!
